puppygram it's instagram but only for puppies it's it's and we're doing part one today of puppy gram okay so we are going to do uh inspired by instagram inspired by instagram thing where we build uh an app for puppies to post their their memories right and their yeah i don't know their stuff okay so either all right so you know what the dog balls look like in the water yeah what does your dog ball look like taking pictures of all your stuff your personal stuff so it's gonna look something like this where we have these cards and a card can have just like the dog's name and like the picture of the dog maybe and then like whatever picture they took and it's just going to be like uh pictures to start and then we'll build up from there actually i think today it's gonna be pictures so so it's gonna be something like instagram something like instagram kinda i think i think this will be just two this will be a two-part thing two-part thing okay and also we had the idea that like so we are are we we're getting a puppy soon and we were talking about how like once we get the puppy it would be cool if there was some device where they could like step on it and then it would just take a picture of them and automatically post to our site so we're going to start a new rails application rails new uh rails new e-gram doggy puppy graham yep puppy graham rail's new puppy gram um database is going to be postgresql and the no tests skip turbo links what's a turbo link uh it's a thing um turbo links what is turbo links turbo links is a technology that will let you quickly render html back to the client without doing a full page reload so it just like partially replaces the html rather than refetching the entire thing so i don't like using it because it usually messes up javascript stuff and i have a feeling we're going to do a lot of javascript in this one um we'll see though we'll see so yeah i think to start off we need like a page we need to see a page where you can see all of the posts one thing that degrees are zeros and codes and they have a slash in the middle or a dot in the middle yeah so that's just to help you see if it's a zero versus if it's the letter o like how do you know this letter o is different than this is zero yeah i thought there's a slash inside it sometimes there's a slash depending on the font yeah or anything um let's see i can't remember actually i think let's see text colors uh monaco it's a cool font monaco look at this web woodpecker successfully installed hooray birthday cake isn't that funny okay so we want to go into puppygram and what are we going to do let's first we need like somewhere to store the pictures and the information that someone posted so maybe we should call it a post yeah so um so i think like there's there's one over there there's one over that says um that said add uh that i forget what the words are called and then there's one others and then there's one another oval that says add picture so you can um and then you upload the pictures file and upload onto it so i'm trying to think about the users that we have are the users going to be the dogs or the user's going to be the owners and can an owner have multiple dogs so maybe i'm thinking of as many dogs out there and so does the owners dogs each need their own account to log in with their own password or should we make it so you just log in with one the dog can the dog doesn't have an email address it could we could make an email address for the dog but um it sends a password it doesn't need an email address it just sends it it sends the owner a password okay so let's say that we have um we have an owner and the owner gives us an email address and a name no just an email and then we can send them magic links so then we need like a session token and a right writing on you're right here on here because we're going to create we're generating a model so rails g model owner and the owner is going to have an email address and a session token the session token is what logs them in and then i think we need like a every time we send them an email they're gonna like click a link a magic link that will log them in but they don't actually need a password we'll just like use email login um no no no i own your password let's scratch that huh on your password the owner password yeah you think they should log in with the password um well i i think we're going to send them their own password to use on puppygram okay puppies don't have their own password but we don't want it that okay yeah okay let's do this so we're gonna have um an owner email session token and let's start with that okay and then we can change it to password sessions okay well we're gonna send them a link and the link's gonna have a magic string and then the magic string will log them in i'll show you i'll show you what i mean um so rake db migrate so this first part is just going to be like how to set up magic link authentication oh db create tv migrate no not the whole video just like the first part yeah and then we need to create i think dogs the owner has many dogs and then when they create a post we have to figure out who's actually you know what hmm yeah okay this is cool um all right so then we want to say we want to create a model for the dog and it has an owner and the dog has a name to have what else should i have name a photo a photo yeah yeah like a little like an avatar uh url and what else that's it that's it okay all right okay um should i have a breed should we try to have a breed or no tags no let's start with breed breed okay let's let's save breed because i think a breed id yeah if the dog's breed doesn't know they can't sign they can't can get him a full scientific account okay so no breed and then what if we make a another model for a post and the post belongs to both an owner and a dog and it has the the um like the url for the actual media that was posted and i think that's it what do you think yeah okay um okay so then i keep taking a sneak peek at what's out at where we can hear showing me like this is the puppy's house oh my gosh isn't that funny okay so um all right so rails g controller uh or no let's say lsg model magic uh link owner references so we're gonna have a magic link thing so when you go to login you put your email you click log in it sends you an email with a magic link you click the magic link and that will tag you and this is going to have just like a token and it's just kind of like a random string um okay so what should be called it's not gonna be called logie it's not gonna have loki dot rocks in it oh i don't know what it should be called what do you think it's it's called puppygram that is what it's called but we an all right a whole new thing called puppies and then what's it called again what's the rock is uh boogie dot rock what what's wrong with that rock what's it called it's a domain a domain yeah how we're gonna name it how are we gonna name this puppygram when we don't have a domain that's poppygram oh let's see is that available graham.com oh it's already taken oh my gosh so cute so cute okay we can call it like puppygram.logia.rocks no oh pg pg pg.logie.rocks it's not called puppygram it's something like puppy ground the doggy gram that's it doggy grandma doggy jam [ __ ] doggygram.com uh just has a number that's ours okay uh all right so um we can't use puppygram it's okay we'll figure out a name later puppygram.dev ooh it looks like it's available maybe all right let's see how far we can take this so we want to go what do we want to do now we want to say rails g controller um owners oh nurse controller so that's going to create an owner's controller with a let's make it um give it a new action on the second part on the second part we're going to show you guys how to make a contraption where the puppy steps on the button and it takes a picture of the puppy the puppy has to pick from pictures this is a pressure plate for sure play is real um yeah this is this is gonna be fun okay so so we need a page all right so what i'm doing is i added two routes if we get slash register it'll go to owner's new so that'll run this controller action if we go to if we send a post request to slash register it'll call the owner's create method and that's where we'll create an owner so we need to go make the form now all right before the opinion of my monitor expressing it okay so we want to say register okay so we really just need their email address yeah right how did you do that i have some snippets name is owner email email no thing placeholder is like owner example.com all right so let's fire this thing up rails are like rake db migrate let's see make sure that we've got everything done or like all of our database tables are migrated um wow this is this is fast um how do we annotate again bundle exec annotate dash dash models this is going to like set the fields on the model so that we can see them okay cool cool cool um all right so let's see if we can fire it up rails s coaching at the dot desk and why is there oh that was um some stuff i was doing with some videos for dad for poppy g all right let's see local host 3000. look at that you're on rails we did it boom we have a rails app okay so now we need if we go to like slash register bum bum bum oh there it is is our register page now we have to enter an email address so owner example.com and then when we click submit it should create an owner and it doesn't do anything yet because we haven't implemented that uh so here we want to say when i'm gonna go get my iphone okay okay the first i'm gonna try to find the owner by email so find by email is email because if we can find them by email then we don't actually want to create a new owner in fact we can probably use this and say like if um so if there was an owner that we could send a magic link if there was not an owner we create a new one so like if there was an owner send them a magic link else create an owner and send them a magic link so either way we want to send a magic link so if there was an owner do nothing if owner.nil and we want to create an owner um with email is params owner email um okay yeah yeah we'll just just create thing um that way if it fails you know what i think we can do find or create by so so what do we got so far so right now we're just gonna like um create an owner and then send them a magic link so we need to get um we need to create a magic okay so um what we want to do is check and see um hey real deep web this is this is ruby um but we're going to write a little bit of javascript javascript no we're not i bet this not a little yeah later we're gonna write a little bit of it um okay so what we want to do with the magic link model is that like when we create it when we first create it we want to make sure that there is a token created so we want to say like before validation on create we want to set self.token is equal to secure oh cool full stack dev with php javascript and react very cool uh do you use laravel um ah greetings from italy very cool yeah we're using ruby on rails and probably just some basic html and a little bit of javascript today i don't know if we're going to use react but we'll see part of the goal is to make an api so that the dog can like take pictures of themselves and post it um so yeah and the next thing and the next thing um and the next thing we'll actually be on will actually not be both with both of us i think we'll be a third person possibly yeah crosstalk wins again i i think i think he might um help us with like all the battery systems to make the camera thing maybe okay so um cool all right so we've got a magic link when the magic link is created with the owner then we want to send an email with this magic link so we need to create a mailer rails g mailer um working with laravel and the creation of the model the other thing handled with the cli artisan yeah cool very cool very cool um all right so we want to generate a new mailer that we're going to use to send the magic link so we can say like rails g mailer um magic link i'm wondering what's gab for even um github is a platform for storing your code um it's a place where you can um collaborate with other developers okay so magic link mailer here is um this is a class that's responsible for sending email so from let's just make it for now we can change all the domains later but for now i think we should call it pg.logee.rocks um oh cool react native sounds so awesome real deep web uh yeah it i like the name and uh also yeah react native is super cool um arc at pg.logee.rocks and then the layout is going to be the mailer layout and then we'll say something like um send link are we gonna get the domain domain after this possibly yeah so rails mailer i i can't remember the basics for action mailers i think we need like uh just at link equals link and that'll give us reference to the magic link and then we need to say mail to mail to and the who email is going to be the owners so link.owner.email and the subject is login to puppygram pop dad okay um and then what else do we need to do my pleasure real deep web happy to happy to help and show some tutorials yeah so um for magic link mailer we need our like owners controller and here we're going to say something like magic link mailer dot send link link um dot deliver now register next all right so like here's here's my thought process so someone is going to come to the page if it's their first time they're going to enter their email and then we are going to um find or create the owner if there already is an owner then we're going to send them a magic link to log in if there's not an owner we're going to create a new one and then send them a link to log in and ooh this could totally be abused because someone could just like put in a bunch of email addresses and hopefully they don't get spammed but we could we could figure that out later on like we could just make it a bunch later oh cool i haven't i i've heard of expo but i haven't used it before that's super cool um so then i want to go to like register slash next so i might just say like def next and on the next page we want to like yeah i think we should just show a view of like check your email um thanks for logging for vlogging dropping by thanks check your email for a magic link okay so then over here right owner at example.com we click submit mail missing template for mailer let's actually just see what this is what are we doing that we don't even know oh wait hold on send link send link.html.erb and then this is going to be the message the email message it's going to be like hey hey there here's your magic link dot what um yeah full link or something and we have to make a method on the magic link object that'll be like i think depending on if it's in production or development we might want to do different things but here we can just return for now we'll just return um localhost 3000 slash magic links question mark token is equal to and then the token that we have on there um all right let's see what this does yeah what do i see what this does okay yeah so the link this this at link right here is going to reference an instance of a magic link of a magic link so um i think this is going to send an email that has yeah okay so now we need to set up um letter opener letter opener gem which is like a tool for playing around with uh letters or email delivery in development so letter is it redder dash better underscore opener bundle install okay all right so what what do we have here for our thing i think she doesn't mean now or she'll get our domain later we should just wait okay uh we've got to restart the server since we changed some stuff and let's see so if we come back over here refresh the page continue nope didn't work uh go to slash register owner example.com click submit hey look at that we've got an email from bark pg.logie.roc log into puppygram here's your magic link we click on it but we can make this we can totally make this get to slash magic links and then we have to use this token to like look up who the person was cool so what we want to do now is say mat or we want to make a new controller rails g controller magic links controller and when we make it when we get a get request to the magic links controller um to show or no this is going to be the index and we're gonna say okay um if ram's token so if there's a token in the query string params which is this thing right if we're if we're given a token um then we want to find the link buy the token and then we want to find the owner and or the owner is linked owner right yeah because we have this association alex i think we need to show an error um oh this editor is called um vim or vi uh i like yeah i've used visual studio code before uh it's nice this one i've just gotten used to the way that modal editing works and so it allows me to move around pretty quickly um but yeah i like vs vs code is pretty cool too um all right so we've got this this thing if we find the the magic link then what we want to do is say like session token is equal to session link.owner.sessioncode um actually reset yeah no session token well how do they get their own token so this is gonna cookie them and then we'll redirect to the root so this is cr this this this thing right here is creating a cookie and the cookie is going to hold on to the token the token from the owner is going to live down here and it's going to say we're going to say that we can only create an owner if it has a session token and before validation hey i wasn't um waiting you something like it's like some hackers are coming onto that website and they try against the sun's account we should do something that's like name user account to use like if the dog's name is already used um um you can say um you can say what i can see like name is already used or like owner email has already been used for hackers so long oh my gosh okay so here we want to say like um we'll create an h1 that says like magic link failed hmm and then in here we can just render out the errors you say uh i wonder if they can hear that banging when you're bouncing around on there um okay so then uh so we're gonna put the air out okay oh did we restart the server okay restarting the server coming back over here refreshing the page come on paige boom okay so register so owner example.com uh oh oh okay it did log us in so if we copy this and then we do it with the wrong token womp okay uh right okay so we need to try to it um okay yeah let's do that because if there's no i think if there's no token then the link will be nil and that's that's totally cool that's totally fine right so what we're saying is like try to find the link try to find the magic link by the token if the if the link is nil or if there was no token then we should get these errors otherwise we should redirect so if we come back over here and refresh yeah magic link failed expired or invalid magic link um please try again um and then maybe we should also have this like um a link that goes back to uh slash register okay so you can click try again here um but the thing that i didn't think of was that owners the the email address needs to be unique okay what is the session token chances of this having a conflict is pretty but like um all of the session tokens have to be the same or uh have to be different if there's any of them that are the same then our authentication fails or doesn't work um okay so if someone comes here and they're like l example.com and they click submit then they get this thing and if they try to go to the page with no token they get the failure if they go to the page with the wrong token they get the same failure and if they go to the page with the right page then they get logged in and redirected here okay and then we can do is from um from the root page we want to have like a posts controller that shows all the posts rails g model or controller posts which is going to have an index for sure oh um i think we're going over it because um like i usually put put the name in first so you just type the name yeah i don't know what you mean put the name of the thing in i don't know what you're talking about the name of our thing puppy puppy grand puppy man got ben and does that ted.com mean um like developer okay well tomorrow we put that the other one at that oh that's just i think that's just how it works okay um posts controller and we need like at posts is equal to post.all to start and then we'll say like at post i each do post and here we're gonna have like a huge thing that tells us all the stuff about the post for now we're going to say like post.id post.created at and we'll refresh the page puppygram look at that puppygram when we go to the root and then we probably also need like um here no application html we need a button to log out right um is um written like there's a slash in the multiplication there's a dash yeah puppy dash cram oh [Music] um owners controller i'm making a log out button so if we receive a get to log out we make that also part of this it's owner's controller we're really overloading this but all this needs to do is say like session token equals nil and then or current owner dot reset session token and then we need a current owner method i guess we're making a new instagram how is instagram called instagram i don't know it's like an insta pot maybe owner fine by um it's the honey okay so we're going to try to find the current the currently logged in owner by their session token which should be in session token right session token yep okay um and then we can say like logged in uh helper method print owner and so our argument is this are there the html index or the java index which what do you mean they're writing right now application html erb this one has a log up button uninitialized constant application controller onwer i misspelled owner logout is missing a template okay and i think we just want to like redirect to slash here okay undefined method reset session token um reset session token you show quickly right now we have one person watching this live or two people just this so this tells us how many and that's one okay all right so we've got puppygram we're able to log out and that does not redirect us so we've been live for 41 minutes cool what i was going to say is we should make a page that's like um we need a static pages controller that just has a an index no that just has a root and the static pages root is going to be like where you end up if you don't if you're not logged in actually no rails the okay um yeah so i think what we want to do here is say something like um if you land on the root page which is um posts controller index um yeah okay okay this is what we're gonna do in the application controller we want to add a new before action and it's require login and what we're going to do is if you're not logged in then we're going to redirect you to slash register so and then every single page is going to have this except the owner's controller so skip before action require login only for new and create okay okay you want to click that link i think yep click it oh it didn't work uh because we also need this on the magic links controller for the index so can you go back all right let's see yeah click the link is it just giving us the same link it shouldn't oh okay it's totally not working um what's going on here skip back to owners and i think we need to say the owner has many dogs right and for how old would you if donor has owner if owner has many dogs then make many dog attacks add a dog to your pack oh i have an idea yeah okay so you can make a pack um so the dogs index should be like your pack because you're the pack leader right you are the pack leader uh and then we say like um dogs that each do ugg because we dog dog name wait does dog have a name hog totally has a name okay so make sure it has a name that's what we should do it also okay that's probably good um add a dog to your pack okay so we want to make a new thing a new form that when you post it creates a new dog in your pack um so we need a field for the name dog name we have been gone for 49 minutes um fido in america i don't know where you broadcast for ruby is ruby demand as a yeah ruby is so um ruby is a somewhat popular programming language it's definitely not the most popular um but it's pretty popular i would say javascript right now just because it's javascript uh but yeah like according to the stack actually overflow um um so java edition my my in minecraft it's called dramatization which because it's fully made with java yeah what's that this is the technology here i can i have the mouse back please can navigate super well okay so uh in terms of technology most popular technologies and in here they'll tell you like yeah okay so the most popular program language is javascript 67.7 use it i mean it's just it's so sql python is yeah so python java uh javascript c php um and then ruby is down here 7.1 so it's not like super popular but yeah javascript is number one but ruby is best for us we like ruby yeah ruby's fun ruby on rails is super fun okay so now it's super easy i thought i was skeptical all right so if we go to like slash um dog flashlight and i know how very popular um they become popular the more the more you use them the more you use the more people who uses it the more popular it becomes and and tons of people use dogs that's the easiest korean language in the whole wide world language in the whole wide world print owner.dogs.new dog params if at dog dot save else and redirect to at dog else errors flash dot now at dog.errors.full messages okay and then in the case that it fails we'll just print the errors here if flash errors flash errors i each do error in italy we have a lot of bank i.t systems very hard-coded with legacy code um in java and some kind of framework like struts and other stuff yep i could definitely see that super popular obviously like lots of java lots of um yeah lots of java lots of javascript spring is very rare interesting how about like java spark or something like that yeah java spring is another web framework um spring that's clean language spring is a framework kind of like rails um i just added it resources dogs that should totally work oh it's dead come back come back rails um back rails all right so puppygram um so application html okay so this thing i think at the top we should have like another thing that's like if logged in and we show log out and we also show a button to to go to your list of dogs my pack click on my pack oh there we go you are the pack leader uh okay so then we want to like in our um dogs index we can have like a link that goes to um like iii and i yeah the i tag is for italics so that's why it makes it like italic like that see how it's kind of like leaning over to the side add a dog add a dog we can just say add a dog like that um and let's put it in uh p tag and then refresh name my focus in the last years is oriented on javascript and typescript you typescript yeah laravel is great i i really like claribel um typescript is a typed version of javascript it's like a superset of of javascript that allows you to have the type typescript compiler it's pretty sweet um fido submit dogs show wow so we should just add let's have a thousand dogs dogs we had 25 dogs a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p spider why are you using fine though it's because it's the only name you know right now yeah fido yeah so your pack this should show us our list though um she wrote our list of our dogs it's not showing us anything what's going on here actually we don't want to use emails why is at dogs oh there it is it just shows it right there fido cool um did you show it right there well i think we want to like we probably want to have like panels or something with like pictures of the dogs and stuff uh okay so we can add another dog let's say rosie act my pack fido and rosie add a dog mickey and thunder how about um so other dog let's do yeah you pick a name scout okay look at that okay so now our pack has five dogs in it spider rosie mickey thunder scout okay so now we need to make a way to create posts right okay i think our dog is definitely named scout or mickey he looks like scout and he looks like ricky but he's a dog mickey and the mouse but it'll be he's a dog or should be skunked um i don't know what does a post have again okay it has an owner it has a dog and it has a url okay so we need to permit the dog id and we need to permit the url and then we need to do something really fancy where we need to validate that the dog belongs to the owner so we're just working on the first part of it today all right all right so so today are we just gonna work on like getting getting logged getting logged in or or are going to get to the middle part and go through i throw the instagram image like as little bubbles that show you giant pictures and in the in the pictures and talking about those um i think we're going to be able to get to just creating a post maybe with a url of a pre-existing image and then later we can figure out uh image upload to s3 what's s3 s3 is a service by amazon that allows you to host files so we want to validate that the dog belongs to the owner so i want to say like dog owner equals owner so if if dog.owner is not owner then we want to say errors dot add wow we're trying white when we really have this oh yeah um owners.add our errors that add owner and then we can say like uh must be the dogs leader all right cool so when we're creating a post so let's go to posts posts slash new create a post um let's see let's see what it does well post new we need to create the form so here we need like we need an input or yeah we need to select we need to select box where the name is host dog id and the values are going to be or these options are going to be um at our uh yeah print owner dot dogs dot each do dog and then we're going to output an option with the value equal to the dog's id yeah 30 minutes it's in one hour but you know maybe we just say like if um well yeah all right uh time is it under dogs.all.each what 255 why doesn't this have a thing for class current owner current owner.dogs.each you dog oh name should be dog.name okay all right so which dog are we talking about this is going to be a post about thunder and then we need to just what for now we'll just put a um text input that's going to be um post oh that's this is going to be the picture yeah um okay so the image right now is just going to be right now like we need to figure out how to like we need to set up s3 to upload but for now for the image sorry yes where are you talking about it it's amazon's file hosting service um all right so it is 102 or i mean it's uh no it's almost three so almost three so let's get the image let's get this image um wait we want to just get some a couple of pictures of dogs just so that we can uh so we want to com okay inspect we want to copy the url for where this thing is hosted actually let's use place this place kitten dogs place is there like a place dogs thing placeholder placeholder images like place kitten acepuppy.com here we go perfect all right so we'll copy that and then paste that in there click submit and nothing happens all right what's going on here clicking clicking we don't have a real page like instagram though what do you mean all right so something oh we're not doing anything all right so we actually create the post so app post equals owner as many posts new post params and we say if at post dot save else and if we save the post then redirect to at post else flash the errors okay boom i think we did it i think we did it yeah but just nearly flashed out of the stream um post.find params id boom okay now we need to create a actual template for that and here we're gonna say all right i'm gonna do i'm gonna go see if there's any small not crummy snacks oh look at that we got our first picture though see if we go back here boom that's our that's going to be our picture okay so now we gotta go posts index oh that's where the picture for our dog but we're we also have account we're gonna also have account pipeline if you don't have account on public all right i'm all right my little puppy's hungry so we're gonna we're gonna wrap this up soon and we're
