is ruby on rails fast i think the answer is it's fast enough for the applications that you would build with ruby on rails and in fact if we're talking about fast in terms of how fast you can build projects and how productive you can be and how fast your team can ship things and how fast you can solve business needs then i would say it's the fastest when we're talking about speed oftentimes we worry about oh like this elixir framework is like ripping fast or this new dino thing that's inside of node is wicked fast or this rust thing is super super fast but in reality ruby is plenty fast enough to build the majority of web applications that most web developers will ever touch it would be amazing to run into a problem where your business is so successful that rails is not fast enough and in that case you can just peel off little parts of functionality and rewrite those in something that is much more performant but i prefer to build and be productive in ruby on rails
