how do you call a controller method from A View so let's say that we're inside of this dashboard View and we wanted to print out the status maybe that status is just how you're feeling that we want that to appear in our dashboard if we call this method from The View right now it's going to say unknown variable or method status for Action view one thing we could do is go into our dashboard controller which is the controller that's rendering this View and create a new method here called status our status is just that we're feeling good and the way that we can expose this method to the view is by calling helper method status defining status as a helper method is a really important part of this and now we can see that we are feeling good in the dashboard now in practice this method should be put inside of the dashboard helper you don't actually want to put that inside of the controller so now we have our status of feeling good inside of the dashboard's helper and all of the methods that we Define in our helper modules are going to be available in The View
