## Transcript

At the end of 2019, I joined the developer support engineering team at Stripe. And over that Christmas break, I kept getting hit up on IRC with questions about broken code snippets. And when I was on the outside, I had this feeling that the Stripe docs were the highest quality and they continue to maintain this very high quality bar and they are. And I was just surprised by how many code snippets were broken. And it's because we were manually maintaining all of those code snippets in the documentation. And so I spent a bunch of time manually going through and correcting and fixing code snippets and really got interested in how do we improve the quality and the reliability and sort of maintainability of code snippets across the docs. And this drove us to build tooling where we could generate code snippets based on the open API spec because we were generating the SDKs. So we knew exactly what those languages looked like. And I think it was that sort of winter break that I really fell in love with trying to make the code snippets in the docs just worldclass and perfect and try to really drive down any of those support requests asking about why a code snippet or example wasn't working from the docs.
