Cloudflare dropped a new blog post and they are even more bullish about code mode. It's very much in line with the way that Stainless's MCP servers are now generated. The Cloudflare approach is two tools, a search tool and an execute tool. That's the same approach that the Stainless MCP server takes. And the idea is that you search for documentation about the API. Then you write some code that will call API endpoints to perform the task. And then the execute endpoint takes that code and runs it. The big difference between the Cloudflare approach and the stainless approach is Cloudflare is write JavaScript against an open API spec directly using raw fetch under the hood and stainlesses is generating based on the TypeScript SDK. So it can do type checking and tell the LLM that it hallucinated very specific things and recover much more smoothly. It'll be interesting to see how this evolves, but code mode is looking good as a next step for MCP.
