like something like this i donate the i call and i say like call this honor emergency go fix it whatever it is federation text and then coolio will go talk to the phone somehow whatever day googling calvin over and then in bring the guy picks up the phone and then it tells them to message maybe 3-4 times you know like your bank says like there has been like a brawler or something like that that's what i wanted to do and i didn't really wanted to anymore now but the twilio interface what of course you could say this is a problem if computers enslave humans and computer culture in over 90 tells you what to do but really you know yet stop my problem I everyone making the calls ready to sew so what will you does actually is is similar but it's not quite the same thing so what it does is like I could tell twilio go call this number and then Julia will go and though kind of call great thing leaders whatever archaic system that they have and like all the all the other few people there and then the phone will ring first the victims are phone and it might take like five minutes for them to pick up who knows maybe it goes to voicemail whatever when they pick it up twilio gets a message like you got a person and an equally Oh calls back means there's like what do you want to say and of course just like seconds or minutes of cost hearing my my port is closed and i'm not actually next thing or my thread that's gone on for the context for that so i don't really know what i want to say right so so it is a powerful way you can also ask you can also get a call back whenever button is pressed or you can get a recording of what the person says all kinds of things are in the API but in my case I just want to push this message that can be done right so it's powerful but all the things needed to make it work so if I actually want to make it work I need to you know add the tests Adam helper methods adder out and model migrations to kind of like make all this work and and then there's like trivial little bits is only two three lines each turret bring them all over to code and they essentially do this callback thing at ease there's a call here to call capi you have to put a comment this is like yeah in like a minute it's going to go back to just URL over there and then you really kind of tell them what you want to say and that's kind of the pain so you know sprinkle it all over the place and there's no reuse so is bad so what I've done is essentially I wrapped it in an engine and it's like the perfect use case for mansion so what the engine does is you know I call this number and I have some message that I want to send an important message and then my my engine will store it in the database and give me back 90 and I'm assembling a URL with that I key oh ya sold so this kind of like a little bit of the code here so so essentially I i call the same protocol and i give it a number of the text and the language and voice and the from phone number that's kind of what you need to do when then this is this is how its implemented here yeah so essentially it calls creates a robocall objects and saves it in the database it makes a half or a callback and any calls the standard freely on interface that's already there which is you know that's three that's pretty straightforward right not none of this is rocket science it's just kind of nicely browned so then I call the twilio interface and he calls the phone number and it tastes true it goes true to the person and pick up the phone when it comes back and eventually they got a person and it calls its round and it gets mine it goes into this little handler and it's called manual somehow that's too bad essentially i'm checking whether the record has been found and whether the token has been provided and stuff probably like where you put your message i'm just telling the error message to a person and calling which is weird if somebody doesn't work in the middle of a nation you kind of like you know what the heck you pick up the phone and is it like no token provided America service but it hasn't actually happened it's very stable but for debugging is kind of nice you get it with the cultic you're getting but yeah improvement here but yeah so if you ever get a call in the middle of the night says like no token is I'm provided yeah my fault actually tells you it tells you this one here so it gets you a little bit more context but yeah there's an error handling issue here so then you know it sends it to the phone and then the user of course price drops the phone and great so yeah they're so um so all you have to do to use this essentially used to use it use the channel update a big bundle run migrations and then you add the twilio magic token so twilio gives you you make you sign up for an account give it a from phone number and these proteins and you give it to the web accessible external path or where your server lives and then you just call these things and it's actually just it's pretty awesome you can do all kinds of things I've done this actually so it's great for prank calls you can call people and you think you could say something like you know have dear mr. Miller and this is the IRS early warning center your 2013 tax return had an issue at us 20 1583 setting a dollars within 23 cents and like breaks out light itself that's probably y este user 23 minutes probably his federal law claim first night but I don't know what I'm doing impersonation or a family of those impersonate probably okay so yeah so that's and you can set the language to which is nice I think it was like 11 languages and there is a whole XML thing so you can say like say this in this language so you can make a little theatre play like maybe two people arguing so you get a call and then there's to be marketing on for more there's an XML format is documented here that you can kind of like say like person asus is person visas is first days is that wait five seconds and then you know you can add mp3 files as well but that's a separate call back tonight don't do binary files I think at this point there's another fix that needs to get in there mr. 0 called clean up that goes in at the end like you know it just force these things in the database and never actually clean smiled so probably there should be cleaned out once taping process may be offered half an hour or maybe so you can give you your still have to clean it up is really not that much data all people that broke maybe cause trouble once waited so that's that so it's nice because it's fully encapsulated easy to review easy to test clean interface it has all its own things it's like it's a unit as a whole if you want to use it you to use that thing and it's not scattered all over the cake code so for use more engines reading it away if it make sense of person yeah it has all these benefits of the tutorial on their own they're on the rails page is actually quite good and then well there's budget stuff that needs to be done still and more tests XML generation is kind of like happy right now so that could be approved the state machine there's a machine support actually so you can say like please press one and then when they first one you convert a call back you can do something else so really what you want to do is you want to describe the state machine and then whenever it hold back it gives you the other message and it keeps on going right so so you can you can describe the state machine with one of the state machine gems and it would automatically do all the right things so you just have your stinky description for your whole call center thing but that wasn't really need for the German tourists like nice and clean and has like one called one method to drive an auto thing of the database will be nice and then there's more coolio things that could be exposed in that way as well so that's that's just crazy and I'm going to leave this up if you like have any questions I tried to hold it for a while back what I haven't tested on a very day just want to go yeah yeah yeah it should be ok but yeah yeah so yeah it has unit tests but they don't actually certainly wasn't actually running them when your rails engines personal request of course yeah actually it seems to just work is simple enough for what is also but if you want to add stuff sorry I mean like that like I come over yes sir say again why is this oh because it has a route in it and it has database migrations in it and all these things I don't think you can do that with the gym because it's like reaching intruder it's doing all kinds of raising things we're handling requests it has it has a deed as a as a troller it has a library function it's like that's is scattered all over the place so it's one way to kind of nicely isolated I don't think I think I looked at making a gem very very early on in the day I don't think is actually good at any other questions and your Society of over a thousand actions and you can use from any language so basically people will build all sorts of crazy stuff in this you can see we have a bunch of categories here a little small but uh so you've got like text analysis finance converters people made API rappers data visualisations scrapers image processing and e-file utility it's basically just pretty much anything which you can think of made into a function library working on this side right now and so because you can call anything via API you can use it in any program from any language we use the lung and rails for her background jobs so basically like you'll set up background jobs sometimes that's a painting that you just want to you know you something asynchronously if you think of Amazon land this is very soon so let me actually show you stuff so uh here's an example of a blog somebody put on it so like I searched for word cloud it's man-made a word cloud here and we realized an important thing with any function is it's a bit of a pain to ramp up on it right like you have to read the documentation you have to look up in my comments you don't even know if it's really going to work for your pain so you actually test it out it's really like okay what we should do is generally a page for every function someone posts on this so never you make a blog and post on blogs freeing generators page review so code and very quickly over the next 15 minutes we'll get four different approaches to showing who's online so as you know if you take a link to some very popular site and you posted on Hacker News are the link very quickly spreads throughout people so we're going to do like wave type thing start over here now my hand past you just with your hands you don't need to stand up but I'd be like a little plan the plan is when we close the browser when you leave the page we're going to send some delete request but it turns out that like this is not guaranteed to work this before on a little thing is not guaranteed to work in fact it doesn't work every time also a sink false that seems pretty gross right like having to put like an async false in an AJAX call on page like on page leave feels very third-party service okay so pusher great option probably one of the first things that came to mind maybe if you've dealt with this before how many people have used pusher for sure oh okay good so pusher is in third party service you you sign up you get some API key you've had some JavaScript to your page and then you can publish and subscribe to events that happen over channels and the they charge you if you have like beyond a certain number of connections so I think beyond twenty pensions don't start talking you simply add more connections but you can have some sort of real time like using pusher drop into Jenna Johnson javascript in your good to go so that's one option alternatively you can use can extract a note service and write a little bit of code with socket i/o okay so how this works okay these are web sockets here okay so the idea is that the way that you know who's online it's who has an open connection and open socket so if I think one of these sucks this will be one end of the tension now they're nerds all right I'm confronting the food so it's like okay so valina and I have a connection with this nerd socket it's nerd websites right and if I have this other southern sock hear it so now you're going to be online oh oh oh because we all went together this one okay so now we have like to open connections right very clear that we are connected okay very clear that we're connected as soon as the page closes they're going to drop the song on the floor or they're gonna send it back to me right the socket is going to close as soon as the page closes now another interesting problem with registering users into it into a cache is that we don't know if the page is going to reload like they're refreshing the same page or if they're leaving completely fry seems like maybe you take the users who are in the cache you put them in some Q and like after some delay like remove them from the queue huge pain so with WebSockets the nice thing is that if someone's on the page you have a song you have a pension right so you know but it was on the page so some big prizes hey okay so what's like it some comfort okay so okay all right so i want to emphasize how simple it is to set up song avail it's very surprising okay so all right we've got here's option for here's a little bit of HTML Iranian robbed before socket i/o just call the socket
